Red leather or Red velvet ?

28 Sep 2012, by admin in Fabrics, Soft Furnishings

Fully covered chair transformed from a red leather chair to a cosy red velvet chair by Aileen Waller, Oxford. This red chair was originally covered in leather as shown in the “before” picture, above left. Leather is hard wearing but can sometimes look a rather “cold”.

Window-dressing (Oxford, England) re-covered this chair in a red velvet fabric as shown in the “after” picture, above right. The chair now looks inviting and ideal to sit in it on a cold night. It looks warm and is amazing how colours and fabrics can make you feel different. The front of the arms and the outside of the velvet-covered chair is hand stitched in place which takes time and attention to detail. It is well worth the work involved.
